FAQs

Most people would benefit from physical therapy (PT) whether they go through a lot of pain or not. It is good to not only treat the cause but also for prevention of disease or injury purposes. If you start to feel the pain in your body and it does not go away, you should consider attending physical therapy.

PT treatments can help you with many different physical issues ranging from vertigo, dizziness, headaches, and musculoskeletal disorders such as back pain, neck pain, knee pain, joint pain, headaches, just to name a few.
The short answer is NO! State of Indiana allows for patient to directly access to physical therapy without a referral with the provision. This will help reduce the overall healthcare cost and faster result without unnecessary diagnostic imaging, injections, and surgeries. 50 States allow direct access without a referral with different rules and restrictions by their governing bodies. To learn more about direct access and its provisions, we encourage you to check out the following resource from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA): Direct Access By State

Scheduling an appointment is easy! You have 3 simple options:

  1. Visit our schedule an appointment page.  After you decide which of our locations is best for you (Merrillville, Valparaiso, or Michigan City), fill out the contact form in the section associated with that location.
  2.  Call the office directly. Each location’s phone number is also listed on the appointment page.
  3. Schedule in person. If you live nearby one of our locations, or your doctor just prescribed you physical therapy, feel free to walk into the office!

We do all we can to make this process as easy as possible for you. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your initial appointment, and bring your ID and your insurance card. You will fill out a few short forms and then meet with your Physical Therapist to determine the best plan of care for you. Your Therapist is there to answer any and all questions you may have, to the best of their ability. You will leave feeling cared for, and well informed.
Unfortunately, broader trends in the medical industry are causing many clinics to adopt a “quantity-over-quality” system. This scheduling system often leads a PT to work with many patients at the same time.  At Apex Physical Therapy, we operate differently.

We emphasize quality-over-quantity. With us, each and every patient gets dedicated one-on-one care with our Physical Therapist, and always has the opportunity to ask questions and express concerns. This will allow our therapists to establish individualized program for each and every patient and help patients perform exercise correctly for the best outcome.
